In normal delivery, the baby is delivered through the birth canal without any surgery. The mother experiences contractions which is an indication of the beginning of labor. The cervix begins to dilate (widen) during this process. The head of baby emerges when uterus is completely dilated and then it comes out of the vaginal canal.
Which women have VND
Those women who have no complications related to pregnancy always have normal vaginal delivery. Carrying multiple children, twins or a baby with defects is not possible to be delivered normally.
How to prepare for delivery?
There is plenty of time during pregnancy to think of which gynecologist to go to for medical aid. Important things to be considered prior to delivery are:
- Choosing the right hospital
- Child birth classes
- Breast feeding options
- Creating a list of necessary stuff to the hospital to be used during and after delivery
- Preparing the area for sleeping or taking rest
- Having all necessary supplies readily available
- Arranging for household help for mother if it is required
- Making proper arrangements for how to move the mother to the hospital instantly when the time of delivery comes
The decision about childbirth is made solely by mother herself, whether she wants to have a baby through drug-free method or with the help of pain relieving medications.
The recovery process
For normal vaginal delivery, stay at hospital normally lasts for 48 hours for the mother. In case, the child has some defects and medical problems he is kept in incubator or other caring unit unless he attains normal health. The recovery from childbirth depends upon numerous factors that may vary from one woman to another. These experiences are mostly observed:
Vaginal discharge: A discharge will be leaked through vagina for up to eight weeks or more right in post-delivery phase. Sanitary pads are best used to avoid any infections in the area. Tampons must be avoided as these are not safe.
Sore Vagina occurs in some women who get a medical cut by surgeon to enlarge vagina at the time of labor. The wound can be treated by icing the affected area or applying an ointment prescribed by the doc
Hemorrhoids are swollen and stretched veins around the anus. This is a common occurrence after childbirth. Soak the area in warm water or apply hazel pads can relive irritating hemorrhoids in the woman. Taking a high-fiber and nutritious diet is also essential to treat this problem.
Breast soreness and enlargement is another common thing. It is because of milk filling in it.
Difficult Urination: The tissues around the blFOr further detaadder and urethra are sometimes swollen after baby is delivered. It makes difficult to urinate. Contract and relax pelvic muscles to get rid of this condition. Applying cold or hot packs at the affected part can also bring some sort of relief.
After a few weeks, the woman resumes to her normal daily activities including physical movements and exercise.
Normal vaginal delivery is the best form of delivery since it is not associated with any risks and is highly safe for both the mother and the baby.
